DCS holds venison reception at Holyrood as part of Food and Drink Fortnight

MSPs at Holyrood had a chance to sample some venison and meet deer industry representatives on 17 September. Leo Barclay from Rannoch Smokery and deer farmers, Nichola and John Fletcher, provided some delicious venison samples for MSPs and Scottish Government staff. The MSPs also received information on the Scottish Venison Working Group, which is promoting this healthy, local meat with events, as well as plenty of easy, delicious recipes, tips about where to buy venison in shops and restaurants and much more. For more information, see www.scottish-venison.info. The purpose of the Holyrood reception was to show MSPs the value of venison in both economic and health terms. The venison industry in Scotland generates over £70 million and supports thousands of jobs. Venison is also one of the healthiest meats available, with low fat and high iron content. And, of course, as the MSPs discovered, it’s delicious!
