Joint Working

A838 – Lairg to Laxford Bridge

Background Information:

Survey work has been carried out on the A838 (Laxford Bridge road) in May and October 2004, in order to identify the nature and scale of the problem on this road.

From analysing available records over the last 5 years and collecting information on collisions there are only 6 recorded incidents of accidents involving deer over this 35 mile stretch of road from Lairg to Laxford Bridge. Most of the road is single track, so vehicle speed and traffic volume are not a significant factor in contributing to deer related RTA’s.

DCS staff met with Kinlochbervie Community council on 7th June 2005, to discuss further their concerns and an appropriate way forward.

It was agreed that the Community Council would provide DCS with more detailed information on the scale of the problem, collating information and evidence from the local community.
